昨年のクリスマスイブにEllienとKathに「新しく入る先生はどんな人？」と聞いた記事です。
LIG社内でも、美女が来ると噂になっていました。
それでは、答え合わせです！
Arnってどんな人？
まずはじめに、Arnは男性です。
どっからどうなって美女と噂が流れたのかは不明ですが、28歳の男性です。
ArnもEllien、Kathと同様にフィリピンのセブ島出身で、MBAでトレーニングを積んだ優秀な英会話講師です。
※MBA・・・START-UP ENGLISHのセブ語学学校の名称
EllienとKathと少し違うところと言えば、日本語が話せる！ことですかね。

Arnのセブ時代
-Where are you from?
Arnはどこ出身なの？
I am from Carcar City, Cebu. The city is located in the south of the island and it takes about an hour and a half away from Cebu City by bus.
僕はセブ島の南にあるセブ市からバスで1時間半ほど離れたカラカラ市出身だよ。
Buses, taxis, jeepneys, tricycles and Habal-habals are the means of transportation in the city.
バスやタクシー、乗り合いタクシーのジプニー、三輪車にハバルハバルというバイクタクシーが街での交通手段なんだ。
-What kind of place is Carcar City?
カラカラ市ってどんなところ？
Carcar City is one of the component cities of Cebu province. It has some national historical landmarks such as Balay na Tisa, Ang Dakong Balay, and Mercado Mansion.
カラカラ市はセブ州の1つで、国の様々な歴史的な建造物があるんだ。
They are remains of the Spanish occupation in the past.
その建物は過去にスペイン領だった時のままなんだよ。
The city used to be the shoe capital of the island but the shoe industry in the city has been dwindling in recent years due to the rise of chinese products.
カラカラ市はかつてセブ島の靴産業の中心地だったんだけど、中国製品が増えるにあたって低下していったんだ。
Now, the city is known for its food delicacies like chicharon, ampao and bacarillo.
今カラカラ市は、チチャロン（豚の皮揚げ）, アンパオ（お米と砂糖とピーナッツで揚げたもの）、バカリリオ（ココナッツを削って砂糖でコーティングしたもの）といった食べ物で知られているよ。
Also, my hometown prides itself its very own festival called Kabkaban festival that draws thousands of people every 25th of November.
また、僕の故郷では毎年11月25日に開催されている1000人ほどを率いる「カブカバン」という独特なお祭りに誇りをもっているんだ。
-What were you like as a kid?
子供の時はどんな子だったの？
When I was very young, I used to watch Dragon ball Z and Hunter x Hunter on TV.
僕が小さい時は『ドラゴンボール』と『ハンター×ハンター』をテレビで見ていたよ。
I have always loved these animes until now.
僕はこれらのアニメが今でも好きなんだ。
But I didn’t know that Son Goku speaks Japanese because I watched Dragon ball in Tagalog/Filipino.
でもね、孫悟空が日本語を話すなんて知らなかったんだよ。だって、タガログ語とフィリピン語で見てたからね。
START-UP ENGLISHで働く経緯
-What did you do before you entered in MBA?
MBAに入る前は何をしていたの？
I used to work for an ESL school that mainly offers services to Koreans. I worked there for 3 years. I taught General English and TOEIC.
前は主に韓国の人にレッスンを提供していたESL schoolというところで、3年くらい日常英会話とTOEICを教えていたんだよ。
In early 2013, I got the opportunity to work in Japan so I quit my job in ESL. From November 2013 to November 2014, I worked in Shizuoka as an intern.
2013年のはじめに日本で働く機会があって、ESLを辞めたんだ。そのあと2013年の11月から2014年の11月までインターンとして静岡で働いていたんだ。
-Why did you decide to join MBA?
なぜMBAに入ろうと決めたの？
My experience in Japan was so wonderful and satisfying. It’s because I was able to live a new life with new people and in a new environment.
日本での経験はとっても素晴らしくて満足していたんだ。新しい友達との生活、新しい環境で生きることができたからね。
I missed the kindness of Japanese people so I decided to work in a company where I can find and talk to Japanese.
僕は優しい日本人が恋しくなって、日本人と話せる会社で働くことを決めたんだ。
MBA has what I needed so I decided to apply and fortunately I was hired.
MBAは僕が必要としていた会社だったから、申し込むことを決意して、そして幸運にも雇ってもらえたんだ。
Arnの日本での生活
-Why did you want to come to Japan?
どうして日本に来たかったの？
I have many reasons why I wanted to come to Japan.
僕が日本に来たかった理由はたくさんあるよ。
First, Japan is the first country that I visited and I loved my first visit. I met some really nice people who took care of me during my entire stay.
1つめに日本は初めての海外で、好きになった国なんだ。僕が滞在している間面倒を見てくれるような最高な人に出会えたんだ。
Second, I was able to experience Hanami in spring, going to Onsen and autumn leaves.Those are things that I can’t see and experience in the Philippines.
2つめに花見、温泉、紅葉を経験できた。これらはフィリピンでは経験できなかったことだ。
Well, I also like winter but I couldn’t see snow in Shizuoka. So, I promised myself to see snow again.
静岡で雪をみることはできなかったけど、冬が好きなんだ。僕はもう1度雪をみると決意したんだ。
Lastly, my Japanese skill was really poor.
最後に、僕の日本語力はまだまだ低い。
No matter how much I tried to study by myself, I couldn’t improve my skill. So, I believe going to Japan would accelerate the improvement of my skill. And it was proven because I passed the intermediate level test I took in July 2017.
たとえ自分でいくら勉強しても日本語力は向上しない。だから僕は日本に来ることで、日本語が早く上達すると信じているんだ。実際、僕は2017年7月に中級レベルに通過することで証明したよ。
-How about Japan?
日本はどう？
I have always loved Japan since my first visit here.
僕は初めて日本に来た時からずっと日本が好きなんだ。
Japan has everything to learn and to appreciate. Seasons change every three months so I always have something to look forward to. People are professional and nice. And transportation system is pretty convenient.
日本は何もかもが学びで素敵なんだ。3ヶ月ごとに変わる季節をいつも楽しみにしている。人もとっても良いし、交通機関もかなり便利だ。
-What do you want in Japan?
日本では何をしたい？
I have been in Japan for some time but I still want to explore more places and meet new people.
何回か日本に来たことがあるけど、もっとたくさんの場所を探検したいし、たくさんの人たちに出会いたいんだ。
Also, I want to polish my Japanese skills to the highest level because I believe I am in the right place and with the right people.
あとは日本語力を磨きたいんだ。なぜならせっかく日本にいるんだから。

-What are you good at about lesson?
どんなレッスンが得意？
I mainly teach General English and Business English.
僕は主に日常英会話とビジネス英会話を教えているんだ。
But I say “as long as you tell me what you need I will give it to you with all I have and with the best that I can do.”
でも言っておくと、君が何を必要としているか教えてさえくれれば、僕ができる最大限のことをするよ。
So it is very important to open up what you really want and need so that I can help you.
だから僕ができる君の本当にしたいこと、必要としていることを教えてくれることはとっても大切なんだ。
-Could you say a few words for everyone?

Don’t give up in studying English.
英語を学ぶことを諦めないで！
Always find ways to achieve your goals.
